11th International Lefkosa Folk Dance Festival underway

The 11th International Lefkoşa Folk Dance Festival organised jointly by the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality, the Youth Department and 7 culture-art societies in Lefkoşa is continuing.

The festival got underway on Monday with the open air screening of a movie in the Çağlayan neighbourhood.

A parade will take place at the Mehmet Akif Avenue also known as Dereboyu at 7:30 this evening.

Modern and Folk dance groups from Spain, South Korea, Mexico, Turkey and the TRNC will take part in the cortege.

An opening ceremony will take place at the Çağalayan Park at 9 o’clock which will be attended by President Mustafa Akıncı and Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün.

There will also be a street ball tournament during the festival.

The matches which will take place from the 24th to the 25th of August at the Çağlayan Park’s basketball courts will begin at 6pm.
