The 16th International North Cyprus Music Festival, organised by the North Cyprus Music Association, takes place this year. The festival will be held from September 21 to November 16.
The festival is supported by the contributions of Deniz Plaza, Rocks Hotel, Bellapais Gardens and Kybele Tourism in cooperation with the President, Prime Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Directorate of Cultural Affairs. Telsim Vodafone will also be sponsoring the event.
The press conference was held in Nicosia Deniz Plaza the day before the festival.
Speaking at the press conference, at Nicosia Deniz Plaza, Halil Kalgay, president of the North Cyprus Music Association, stressed that the festival which was launched in 2003, has considerably more items in this year’s programme.
The main sponsor of the event, Deniz Plaza’s Chairman Turgay Deniz, pointed out the importance of organising such an event in the TRNC, which remains under embargoes.
Anasponsor Telsim Executive Vice President Fevzi Tanpınar expressed their satisfaction with being a sponsor in such an event.
The festival will present 17 concerts and will be opened on September 21 at the Girne Amphitheatre with Zorba Balesi, by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Company.
The world famous pianist and composer Fazil Say will perform at Salamis Antique Theatre on September 30th. He will play the 2nd Piano Concerto by Camille Saint-Saens, accompanied by the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Ali Hodja. Then Say will play his own composition Op.78 “Troy” Sonata for Solo Piano.
Concerts performed by renowned percussion virtuoso Burhan Öçal and the famous Ukrainian piano virtuoso Alexey Botvinov’s “Reloaded-2” Project at world music venues such as Paris, Zurich, Basel, Montreux Jazz Festival, will be held on October 5th-16th, at Bellapais Monastery.
The TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra and Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra United Concert will play at Bellapais Monastery on October 16th and 17th. In the first part of the concert, the symphony orchestra, directed by conductor Ali Hoca, will be accompanied by Alexander Markov, one of the well-known violin virtuosos, in the interpretation of Eduard Lalo’s Spanish Symphony.
In the second part of the concert, Ali Hodja’s Symphony Orchestra will play Anton Dvorak’s New World Symphony.
Zorba Balesi will start at 21.00 and all other concerts and shows will start at 20.30.
