43 Migrants rescued off Guzelyurt Coast

The Turkish Cypriot and Turkish coast guard rescued 43 migrants, including children, off the coast of north Cyprus earlier this week after their vessel’s engine failed.

Mersin governor’s office said the Turkish Cypriot coast guard teams had received information regarding a boat in difficulties 24 km off Guzelyurt.

Two boats were then deployed to rescue the migrants one of whom was an Iraqi, the other 42 were Syrian nationals.

The refugees, along with the boat, were then taken to Bozyaza port, Mersin province.
