Agreement reached on half of the issues in Cyprus talks: Burcu

Serious progress had been achieved in the Cyprus negotiations over the past 17 months, presidential spokesperson Barış Burcu has said.

Speak on BRT, he said that agreement had been reach on half the issues over that that time. “The progress to hand is serious. If it was not like this then a decision could not be taken for a summit in Switzerland”, he said.

During their time in Switzerland, both leaders will remain in continuous contact, he noted, adding that he hoped that remaining differences would be ironed out.

All unresolved issues will be on the table as a whole, in Switzerland and the two leaders will try to reach agreement on these issues. The date of a five-party meeting could be set once agreement was reached on the criteria, Burcu said.

He also stressed that the territory issue will not be discussed before a date is set for a five-party meeting.
