Agricultural minister in Istanbul to discuss water issues

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Nazim Cavusoglu is in Istanbul today. He was invited by the Turkish Minister of Forestry and Water Management Veysel Eroglu, to participate in the meeting of the Ministries Responsible for Water issues at the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Cavusoglu told Kibris Gazetesi that during his contacts in Istanbul he will convey to Turkish officials the position of the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the administration of the water transferred from Turkey to the TRNC.

He said that from 1st July, water distribution will begin across the region, firstly to Nicosia and then Gonyeli and Lapta. Cavusoglu further argued that the TRNC had played its part as regards its responsibilities on the water issue. He added that the selling price of the water is yet to be decided, noting that this is among the topics he will discuss during his meetings in Istanbul.

Reporting on the same issue, Turkish Cypriot daily Havadis reports that Cavusoglu stated that he will make an agreement with Turkey over the details of the water contract and added that it is his aim that the price of water will be agreeable to the Turkish Cypriots.
