Famagusta MP Ahmet Kasif probably has bigger things on his mind today than buying jewellery. However that didn’t stop a team of fraudsters from trying to use his name in an innovative scam at a Famagusta jewellery shop.
45 Year old Cengiz Korkmazhan from Famagusta called a jewelers shop (Lal Kuyumculuk) on Saturday and introduced himself as Dr Ahmet Kasif. He told the jewelers that he would be sending a woman over to select some gold items and that these should be charged to his personal account. Sometime after the phone call, 48 year old Filiz Erbekir showed up at the shop and said that Ahmet had sent her.
However, the only bracelets she was given were the handcuffs slapped on her wrists as she was arrested and taken into custody by police waiting for her at the store.
Yesterday she appeared at Nicosia court where police said that Cengiz Korkmazhan was also wanted in relation to other, similar crimes but had not yet been apprehended.
Police investigations continue.
