All flights to and from Ercan Airport were cancelled until 8am on Wednesday morning causing chaos, after the Air Traffic Controllers went on strike following a government decision to cut down on paid overtime hours.
The strike has affected around 3,000 passengers who were left stranded with nowhere to go. Many people cancelled their flights following the action by Ercan workers.
The TRNC Council of Ministers responded by banning the strike action.
Today the Minister of Public Works and Transport Tolga Atakan announced the end of the strike action at Ercan Airport in his social media account.
He wrote the following:
“As a result of our negotiations with the Air Traffic Controllers’ Union, the action at Ercan Airport has ended. In less than half an hour, the airport will return to normal flow. I would also like to thank all the air traffic controllers who showed the necessary sensitivity in this regard.”
