Akinci disagrees with South’s upbeat press reports

Speaking after a four hour meeting between himself and Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anastasiades, President Mustafa Akıncı said that there is no consensus on effective participation in the decision making process in a federal Cyprus. He said that the differences were ongoing.

Akıncı added that there is also no improvement on the topic of a rotating presidency. “It should be the end of revisiting the same issues. For the general framework, the UN should embark on shuttle diplomacy. July is will be full of new tensions,” he said, [referring to the South’s scheduled drilling programme offshore the island.]

Referring to reports by the Greek Cypriot press, President Akıncı said, “Progress between the negotiators are described as optimistic. I have not received any such information from my negotiator. There is no such thing, ” Akıncı noted.
