Akinci Hosts Dinner for Donors to Children with Leukaemia

North Cyprus News - Akinci - Children with LeukaemiaPresident Mustafa Akıncı and first lady Meral Akıncı hosted a gala dinner in honour of the donors to the Children with Leukaemia and Fight against Cancer Foundation.

President Akıncı said that he was pleased to attend a dinner with people that have all gathered for a good cause.

He said that every family and person in the country and around the world had been affected either directly or indirectly from this disease and pointed to the importance of early diagnosis.

He also touched upon the fact that many people in the country were still trying to hide the disease and said that we must overcome this habit.

The President also thanked everyone who was working in the field to raise money, raise awareness or fight against the disease for their efforts.

Noting that despite there being a number of issues dividing the two communities on the island, President Mustafa Akıncı said that he was pleased to see that the two sides could come together on this problem.

Thanks to a Turkish Cypriot donor a Greek Cypriot is able to continue living and vice versa and this is very pleasing. When it comes to health race, religion, language, colour or gender don’t matter that’s why it’s so important to join forces on these issues. I therefore thank those who have organised this event and wish them success in the future’’ said the president.

The President then presented donor Ismail Volkan with a plaque.

The Minister for National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit, Interior Minister Ayşegül Baybars and some ministers took part in the gala event and from South Cyprus administrators from the Karaiskakio Foundation, Kethi Klerides and some Greek Cypriot donors attended the event.
