After he inspected work at the new terminal building, President Akıncı said that the biggest goal was to launch direct flights to and from the TRNC via the new airport.

Since we live on an island, air transport is extremely important for us. We lag behind in terms of sea transport. We need to develop our infrastructure if we are to improve means of air transportation. That is why the new terminal, runway and expansion of the old runway projects at Ercan are extremely important”, the President said.

Akıncı said that the new terminal, once opened, will be able to provide services catering for between 5-8 million passengers.
