President Akinci and his wife Meral took part in a marathon walk held in Nicosia.
The marathon was organised by Nicosia Turkish Municipality and sponsored, in the main, by Turkcell North Cyprus. The proceeds will go to support children with leukaemia.
Around 2,500 people turned up for the marathon which was divided into 4, 8 and 21 kilometre categories.
President Akinci and his wife joined in at the four kilometre stage.
Minister for Health Faiz Sucugolu and leader of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) Cemal Ozyigit were among some of the MPs who also took part, as did North Nicosia Mayor Mehmet Harmanci.
Before joining in, President Akinci said that it was a beautiful day to have the marathon. He thanked Nicosia Municipality and its sponsors for contributing, noting that it was important to raise awareness for this cause.
