President Mustafa Akıncı left for New York this morning to attend a meeting with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades.
Akıncı will meet with Guterres and Anastasiades on Sunday in New York after the UN chief invited the two leaders on Sunday evening to discuss the current situation regarding the Cyprus negotiations and how to move forward.
The meeting will take place at the UN headquarters in New York at 7pm local time (2am Monday TRNC time).
Before he departed he said, “We are going to New York to overcome the bottleneck in the [negotiations] process, to open the way to Geneva.”
President Akıncı was accompanied by his negotiator Özdil Nami and will return to the island on Tuesday afternoon.
