Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s daughter Sumeyye, married one of Turkey’s leading defense industrialists on Saturday in a ceremony attended by political leaders, former prime ministers and presidents.
However, writing in his ‘Backstage’ column, in Kibris Postasi, journalist Gokhan Altiner notes that President Akinci was not invited to the wedding, despite the fact that 6,000 people, including political leaders and other representatives of various countries were invited.
The TRNC president never received an invitation to the wedding, a fact which was confirmed by one of President Akinci’s advisors, Cenk Gurcag.
“I can very clearly say that Mr Akinci did not participate in the wedding because he did not receive an invitation“, Gurcag told the journalist.
Altiner comments that this is a bit strange since “the sensitivity of Erdogan towards both the Turkish Cypriots and the ‘daughter country’ is known and [he] always gives value and importance to these issues”.
