President Mustafa Akinci’s spokesman Barış Burcu, has said that President Akinci and the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy Jane Holl Lute held a fruitful meeting on Monday. They discussed in detail, the terms of reference which the UN is drafting, in an attempt to start new negotiations to solve the Cyprus problem.
President Akinci’s spokesman Barış Burcu and his special advisor on diplomacy and EU affairs Erhan Ercin, were also present at the meeting.
In a written statement issued after the meeting, which lasted for an hour and 45 minutes, Burcu said:
“We had a productive and detailed meeting on the terms of reference. It seems that the preparation of the terms of reference will continue for some more time. Within this framework, the president will be meeting again with the UN special envoy tomorrow at 10:30am”.
The UN envoy made no statements to the press before or after the meeting.
