Presidential spokesperson Barış Burcu said that President Akıncı had held a productive meeting with UN Special Envoy Jane Holl Lute on Wednesday afternoon. During the two and a half hour meeting, Akıncı, re-stated that there cannot be open-ended procedures in the negotiations and they must be result-orientated.
The statement said that Akıncı had emphasised once again, “the importance of political equality and effective participation in the decision making process in a possible settlement”.
On Wednesday morning, the UN Secretary-General’s temporary envoy to Cyprus met with Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades to assess if he was ready to and within what framework, would he be willing to restart the Cyprus negotiations. Their meeting was also described as productive. Lute met Akinci with the same agenda.
She left both meetings without making any comments.
