The fire yesterday afternoon which swept through 300 donums of land in Alsancak, Ilgaz and Yesiltepe, destroyed pines, carob trees and olive trees reducing them to ashes.
Because of the dry conditions and the winds, it took the combined efforts of the Kyrenia Fire Department, the Forestry Department, Civil Defence League, council workers from Kyrenia and Lapta councils, Fire services from the army, including British bases, as well as a fire fighting helicopter from Adana to douse the fires.
