Ambitious agricultural irrigation scheme for Guzelyurt

Turkey’s Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs, Veysel Eroglu, has promised that the water supplied by Turkey to the TRNC will be used for agricultural irrigation by 2018.

Chairman of the Turkish Cypriot citrus fruit producers union, Ali Alioglu, who recently met with the Turkish minister and TRNC agriculture minister Nazim Cavusoglu, said that Turkey has already allocated a fund of around 100 million TL for irrigated farming. Within the year, tenders would be launched for the project, he said.

The main aim of the project would be to construct a tunnel, 3.5 metres in diameter, to supply water to Guzelyurt, said Alioglu.
