Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades is successfully recovering from open heart surgery carried out on 2nd December at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.
Anastasiades underwent surgery to repair the mitral and tricuspid valves which were leaking because of a degenerative valve condition.
The operation was carried out by Cardiac Surgeon-in Chief, Dr David Adams and his team.
President Anastasiades was also accompanied to New York by Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the American Heart Institute in South Cyprus, Dr Marinos Soteriou.
It appears likely that Anastasiades will be discharged from hospital next week and should be returning to Cyprus before Christmas.
