Anastasiades looking for advice in wrong quarter: Ozersay

Former Turkish Cypriot negotiator and leader of the People’s party (HP), Kudret Ozersay has said that “[President] Anastasiades is seeking advice on the wrong places and is directed to strengthen the hands of those who want to block the process”.

According to Kibris Postasi, Anastasiades is also seeking advice from the Greek Cypriot national council.

President Nicos Anastasiades requested a week’s break from the Cyprus Summit in Switzerland to confer with party political leaders and to meet with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

In a press release by the party (HP), Ozersay said that the HP, are against extending this procedure and are seeking a balanced, mutual acceptable outcome. He added that finding a solution to the Cyprus problem is feasible before the end of 2016 with the convention of the five-party meeting.

He also argued that “if the Greek Cypriot side instead of going to this meeting, which will bring results, will try to get concessions in exchange for this, this does not indicate good intentions.” He also warned the Turkish Cypriot side to be careful on this issue and with this understanding, he continues to support the Cyprus talks.
