Anastasiades looking to issue 3rd round of gas exploration licenses

Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades will meet the heads of energy companies by 22nd July in Nicosia, one day before the deadline expires for the issuing of the 3rd round of licensing for blocs in South Cyprus EEZ, presidential spokesman Christodoulides has said.

He also noted that the Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis will fly to the UK and then to the US to have discussions with energy companies who have already indicated an interest.

Meanwhile, Christodoulides said that President Anastasiades will be sending party leaders a revised framework outlining how the National Council, the South’s main advisory body to the President, will handle the Cyprus problem, in order to improve its effectiveness.

The move comes after EDEK leader Marinos Sizopoulos in March this year, disclosed sections of the minutes of a National Council meeting covering details on convergences reached by the two community leaders.
