Anastasiades speaks to Ban Ki-moon

South Cyprus President Anastasiades has spoken to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the telephone, in order to discuss developments regarding the Cyprus problem.

According to CNA sources, the discussion focused on the joint declaration that is yet to be agreed upon between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides that would pave the way for the resumption of the Cyprus talks.

He noted that President Eroglu does not see the need to formulate a joint statement [although Eroglu has taken part in that exercise] and reminded the UN Secretary General that Cyprus was an EU country with the acquis communautaire, EU values and principles, which should in turn secure the rights of all citizens of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
