Ancient family tomb discovered in Yesilkoy

A three thousand year old family tomb has been unearthed in the Karpaz village of Yeşilköy at the weekend.

The Antiquities and Museums department announced that following archaeological excavations carried out by Cafer Gilol, an ancient family grave belonging to the Cypro-geometric period was discovered.

After a systematic excavation of the ancient tomb, the archaeological team found a child’s skeleton on the floor and two adult skeletons.

Double-handled amphora, two pieces of oenochoe (wine jug), amphora, perfume bottles, many broken ceramic pieces, vases and other pottery were unearthed.
