Application to UNESCO for Salamis Undersea Museum

The municipality of Yeni Boğaziçi village has undertaken an initiative to have the part of the ancient ruins of Salamis which lie under the sea, to be included in UNESCO’s Global Cultural Heritage.

Within this framework, the municipality has assigned to Nihat Ozdal, curator of Gaziantep Undersea Museum, the duty of carrying out a study for this potential project. Ozdal completed the file and has submitted it to UNESCO.

The mayor of Yeni Boğaziçi Katip Demir, stated on Tuesday that should their application be successful, the name of Yeni Boğaziçi and the TRNC will be heard the whole world over. He added that there are three undersea museums worldwide and that Salamis will become the fourth.
