Applications for permanent residence permits are now being accepted. Speaking to BRT, Interior Ministry Undersecretary, Hasan Alicik said that currently, 10,000 people have the right to apply for the permit.
Recent alterations to residency laws mean that persons who work in the TRNC and have been in possession of a work or business permit for six consecutive years, can file an application for permanent residence. He said that those who hold a work permit for 12 years qualify for citizenship.
According to ‘Yeni Duzen’ Alicik noted that there are 41,622 foreigners holding a work or business permit living in the TRNC. 32,545 are from Turkey, 2,454 from Turkmenistan, 1,516 from Pakistan, the remainder come from Vietnam, Ukraine, the Philippines and Bangladesh.
