An inter-communal meeting of religious leaders from across the island was hosted by Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos II.
The religious leaders met at a lunch to exchange views on the restoration of monuments and holy sites in Cyprus.
Those attending were Turkish Cypriot Mufti Dr.Talip Atalay, Maronite Archbishop Joseph Soueif, Armenian Archbishop Varoujan Herkelian and Jerzy (George) Kraj , the Guardian (Superior of the Community) and delegate for the Custos of the Holy Land in Cyprus.
UNSG Representative Lisa Buttenheim and Mayor of Nicosia Constantinos Yiorkatzis amongst others, also attended the lunch.
The Archbishop in a brief press statement, said that all religious communities in Cyprus are interested in the restoration of monuments and holy sites on the island and referred to the cooperation he has had with the Turkish Cypriot Mufti in this regard.
The Mufti said that it was good that all the religious leaders discussed the problems and concentrated on their solution. He added that the language of these leaders should be different from the language of politics.
