An operation targeting a criminal organisation that facilitated the acquisition of fake driver’s licences from Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Georgia for unqualified individuals in Turkey has resulted in an arrest, Kibris Postasi reported.
The operation, based in Giresun and conducted by the Giresun Provincial Police Department, led to the detention of six suspects, one of whom was subsequently arrested. The other five were released under judicial supervision.
The Giresun Provincial Police Department released a statement detailing the operation:
“An investigation was initiated after numerous drivers were found using driver’s licences obtained from Georgia. It was discovered that individuals who failed driving tests, had disqualifying health conditions, inadequate education, or previous legal and administrative sanctions, were obtaining fake licences from Georgia and TRNC. These fake licences were then notarized and translated for legal use in Turkey. This scheme constituted qualified fraud and resulted in unjust enrichment. Six suspects were detained in a coordinated operation, and after interrogation, one was arrested while five were released under judicial control”.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat fraudulent activities and ensure road safety by preventing unqualified individuals from obtaining driver’s licences through illicit means.
