Ex-fugitive businessman Asil Nadir was already sentenced to prison for ten years. He was earlier found guilty in the UK of stealing £29 million from his Polly Peck company during the 1980’s.
Earlier today, the Compensation Court of the Old Bailey ruled against him and ordered him to repay £5 million. The judge dismissed his claims of poverty and said that he had hidden income and assets.
Mr Nadir has two years to pay the £5 million to administrators or else a further 6 years will be added to his sentence.
The judge also ruled that Turkish airline boss Hamit Cankut Bagana could apply for the return of the £250,000 security he paid for Nadir’s bail.
