Yesterday morning the Bellapais monastery ticket office was burgled by an unidentified individual. According to Kyrenia police officials, 1,390 TL and 156 Euros were taken, along with entrance tickets to the monastery.
The onsite security camera was disabled during the burglary, however a suspect has been arrested by the police. In Kyrenia court yesterday, police testified that the suspect had been identified because he had gambled similar amounts to the cash stolen and he resembled images taken by the security camera before it was disabled.
Police are aware that the evidence is currently largely circumstantial and requested that the suspect be held while their investigations continue. Judge Talat Usar ordered that he be held for three days.
