Bi-communal Initiative Sends Letter to Lute

The Bi-communal Peace Initiative-United Cyprus has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General’s temporary Special Adviser to Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute, outlining the expectations of the organisation.

These detail the points discussed with the head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Elizabeth Spehar, at the UN office in the buffer zone.

During the meeting with Spehar, the Initiative’s delegation said that had held great expectations of Mrs Lute. They hoped that she would be able to overcome the stalemate arising from the Cyprus problem and that she will be able to find ways of removing the impasse.

The delegation also said that they were pleased that the UNSG clearly stated that civil society organisations needed to be included in the peace process. They called on Lute to ensure that was made possible.

The letter, containing the signatures of 76 organisations was handed over to Ms. Spehar to be given to Mrs. Lute.
