Biden to meet Eroglu at Presidential palace tomorrow

Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu will be meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden at 16.15 pm on Thursday at the Presidential Palace, ‘Kibris Postasi’ has reported.

Vice-President Joe Biden flew directly from Romania and landed at Larnaca airport in Airforce Two this afternoon. He was welcomed on the tarmac by Foreign Minister Iaonnis Kassoulides and US Ambassador to Cyprus John Koenig. During his brief speech, he said he wanted to squash rumours that he had arrived in Cyprus with a peace plan “in his back pocket”, ‘Cyprus Mail’ reports.

He added: “The US recognises only the legitimate government of Cyprus and my visit here will not change that,” he noted. Biden left for Limassol where he will spend the night.

Reports say that Biden will get together with Presidents Eroğlu and Anastasiades over dinner at the Chateau Status Restaurant in Nicosia’s Buffer Zone.

According to the information given by the Presidential Press Office, accredited reporters and journalists should be at the Presidency at 14.00-15.30 in order to be able to follow the Biden-Eroğlu meeting tomorrow afternoon.
