Bitter Lemons Trail Opens in Bellapais

North Cyprus News - Tree of Idleness restaurantNewly paved steps near the Gardens of Irini in Bellapais form part of a Bitter Lemons Trail route for visitors to explore the historic village.

The new ‘blue footprint’-marked circular route starts and finishes at the Tree of Idleness (Huzur Ağaç) restaurant, opposite the village’s famous 13th century abbey.

The name Bitter Lemons derives from an autobiography written by British ex-pat author, poet and travel writer Lawrence Durrell. The book decribes the three years (1953–1956) he spent in Cyprus. The book was awarded the Duff Cooper Prize for 1957.
