The body of a 13-year-old boy was discovered on the military firing range at Mevlevi, in the Güzelyurt region.
Makhir Ismailov, a Georgian national was reported missing overnight by his parents, who then discovered his body the following morning. Police say that he had died when he accidentally triggered an unexploded grenade. An autopsy report said that the boy had suffered internal and major vascular injury.
Makhir was still attending school and he would collect scrap to help the shepherd family’s finances. The investigation into the accident continues.
A similar event took place near the Hamitköy firing range in August. Five workers were seriously injured during asphalting work, when unexploded ordnance was accidentally detonated by the workers.
