Bomb scare in Dereboyu, Nicosia

A ‘bomb’ scare occurred on Mehmet Akif Street, known as Dereboyu, in Nicosia. According to information obtained by Yeniduzen, a suitcase, whose owner was unknown, attracted the attention of local residents at the roundabout also known as the “Pronto Roundabout.” The police were informed, and bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene. The road was subsequently closed to traffic by the police, and the suitcase was detonated, with no dangerous outcome. Shortly after, the road was reopened to traffic.

Meanwhile, the police made an official statement regarding the incident. It was stated that various clothes and personal items were found in the suitcase. The statement included the following comments:

At around 19:30 today, a report was received about a suspicious suitcase left on the side of the road near the Pronto Roundabout on Mehmet Akif Street in Nicosia. Police teams took the necessary security measures at the scene. Bomb disposal teams intervened, and it was determined that the suitcase contained various clothes and personal belongings. An investigation into the incident is ongoing“.
