Britains’ draft resolution on UNFICYP mandate in pipeline

Britain will present a draft resolution on the renewal of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) mandate next week to all permanent members of the UN Security Council, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.

The UN Security Council will meet with participating countries on 23rd July and the Council will hold consultations the following day. The resolution is expected to be adopted on 30th July.

Diplomatic sources say that Security Council members will be briefed by the Special Representative of the Secretary General in Cyprus, Lisa Buttenheim.

UNFICYP was set up in 1964 and remains one of the longest-running UN Peacekeeping missions.
