The UK parliament has voted in favour of air strikes in Syria. After a debate which ran for over ten hours on Wednesday, a vote to carry out air strikes in Raqqa was carried by 397 in favour to 223 against.
Six UK Typhoons jet fighter planes and two Tornadoes have been on standby to depart for RAF Akrotiri in the event of a vote in favour of action in Syria.
The UK is already taking part in air strikes against ISIL in Iraq.
