China thanks Cyprus for its role in Syrian chemical weapons removal

Greek Cypriot Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides met with the Chinese ambassador to Nicosia, Liu Xinsheng on Friday. The ambassador was accompanied by the commander of the Chinese naval force in the region and the commander of frigate ‘Huangshan’, which took part in the removal of chemical weapons material from Syria, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.

In an official press release, the Chinese ambassador thanked Cyprus for facilitating the countries that took part in the mission to eliminate the Syrian chemical weapons arsenal.

The Defence Minister noted that through its role and action, Cyprus has emphasised its importance in strengthening peace, stability and security in the region.

According to the press release, Fokaides is scheduled to visit China, soon.
