Christmas shopping queues

Even though 13th month salaries have not been paid, there were long queues at the crossings to the South yesterday.

Metehan crossing in particular was very busy, citizens who were interviewed  there said that they were going over for a variety of reasons. They wanted to see the Christmas decorations as well as to take advantage of early sales. Many pointed out that prices in the North were rising too fast, forcing them to go South to buy cheaper alternatives.

However, they complained that there were no extra staff at the crossings and delays of 30 minutes to an hour were common. A few asked why so much effort had gone into introducing passport chips for passports that were so restricted in use? Instead they wanted the government to introduce chipped ID cards to enable a quicker crossing.
