Civil society platform supports the negotiations

President Akinci met with a delegation from the newly established ‘Solution and Peace Platform’ which consists of 33 civil society organisations that support a peaceful solution on the island.

During his visit, Akinci thanked the societies for forming such a platform and expressed the hope that a similar platform would be created in the south.

Referring to the Cyprus negotiations, he said that they had entered an intensified phase and added that it was their aim to achieve ‘yes’ votes on both sides, in the event a referendum is held on a Cyprus settlement.

Noting that unlike the Annan Plan period they did not have a prepared plan in front of them, Akinci said that everyone is working to prepare the two sides for an agreement. “We are trying to prepare a Cypriot plan and it’s not easy. To find a plan that both sides approve of is not an easy task”, said Akinci.

Speaking on behalf of the platform, Okan Dagli said that they fully support the Cyprus negotiations and will work towards achieving a ‘yes’ vote in the event a referendum.
