Community leaders press ahead with negotiations as time runs out

The two Cypriot community leaders continue to press ahead with the Cyprus negotiations. Both leaders met on Tuesday morning to discuss a new economic model in the event of reunification and EU affairs. Discussions on key issues such as territory and guarantees will come later.

Two furthers meetings are scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday 10th September in the hope of achieving sufficient progress in the talks by 14th September, after which, President Anastasiades will fly to Bratislava to attend the EU Council, an informal meeting of heads of state chaired by Donald Tusk on 16th September.

Both leaders are expected to hold a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon after the UN General Assembly on 17th September.
