Community leaders recommence Cyprus negotiations

President Anastasiades and President Akinci, meet on Tuesday in a new round of intensified Cyprus negotiations.

According to the south’s government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides, his side is pleased that the issue of territory is no longer linked to the issue of security and will be discussed separately.

The spokesman said that the bulk of today’s meeting would entail preparatory work for the following meetings. This will include setting the agenda and timetabling their meetings.

On Monday, UN Secretary-General Special Envoy Espen Barth Eide said that it is clear that the chapter on territory will have to be discussed soon and possibly before the full-fledged discussions on security.

He said that that there will be frequent meetings in October “in order to try to overcome those issues which are closed”.
