Conservation work on church in Gecitkale organised

Planned conservation works to Archangelos Michael Church in Geçitkale/Lefkoniko are expected to last eight months.

The project costing about 390,000 euros is funded by the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community.

The building will undergo major structural preservation. The portico roof will be rebuilt, external buildings and the yard will be refurbished. Frescoes and carved woodwork will be preserved by a specialist.

Conservation of the church has been organised by the Bi-communal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (TCCH), the European Commission and the UNDP.
