Council of Ministers continues to hand out citizenship

The UBP/DP coalition government continues to grant exceptional or mandatory citizenships with a decision of the council of ministers, except those who gained the right for an ordinary citizenship or those who got this status with the approval of the ministry, writes Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen.

The council of ministers justified its decision according to article 9, paragraph (1), clause (c) and (b) of the citizenship law for the new thirteen citizenships, which went into effect by being published in the official gazette on October 10, 2017, the paper reports.

It goes on to say that granting exceptional citizenship removes the conditions of residing in the TRNC for five continuous years from the date of the application as well as the confirmation that it is decided to settle in the TRNC.

The paper also publishes the list with the names of the 13 persons, who obtained citizenship after a meeting of the council of ministers on October 3.
