The Republican Turkish Party’s Cyprus Working Group paid a visit to the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration Nicos Anastasiades.
The CTP Working Group had first met President Mustafa Akıncı and will carry out similar visits to the political parties of the two sides and organise panel discussions.
A statement released by the working group said that they extensively discussed the latest developments reached on the Cyprus problem with Mr. Nicos Anastasiades.
They shared their views with Anastasiades and voiced the Turkish Cypriot side’s sensitivities on the issue of political equality and active participation.
They also emphasised the importance of all parties constructively contributing to the efforts made by the UN Secretary-General’s temporary consultant to Cyprus Jane Holl Lute. Lute will be coming to Cyprus to set the terms of reference that will determine whether reunification talks will resume and a road map for the Cyprus issue.
The Cyprus Working Group held a similar meeting with the Greek Cypriot AKEL General Secretary Andros Kiprianu.
Meanwhile according to Greek Cypriot sources the meeting between Republican Turkish Party representatives and the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration was informal.
The Greek Cypriot administration spokesperson Prodromos Prodromou said that Mr. Anastasiades reaffirmed his readiness to begin efforts towards setting the terms of reference, as requested by the UN Secretary-General, with the ultimate goal of resuming negotiations.
He said that Anastasiades had reaffirmed that the Greek Cypriot side would rely on the framework and the six parameters set out by UN chief Antonio Guterres, during the Crans-Montana conference on Cyprus in 2017, as well as on all past convergences, to resume comprehensive negotiations that will address all issues.
