General Secretary of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Asım Akansoy, issued a written statement on the occasion of September 1st, World Peace Day. Yeniduzen reported. He said, “September 1st is not a day for the lies of sovereign equality, but a day for establishing a fair and equal new order that both sides can agree on”.

Highlighting the importance of peace both in Cyprus and around the world, Akansoy expressed hope that the recent wars will come to an end.

His statement is as follows:

We are at a time when our desire for lasting and comprehensive peace in Cyprus is at its highest, while wars and conflicts are spreading across the world. On this World Peace Day, September 1st, I wish peace to all peoples.

“Our world is going through a period of high tension as imperialist countries seek to expand their dominance and create a new world order. The ongoing wars, like those between Ukraine and Russia, and the conflicts and occupations in Palestine and Israel, which disregard international law and devastate human lives, are among the most pressing issues today. Powerful countries, protected by new war technologies, are causing great harm to weaker nations.

“According to the UN Human Rights Commissioner, by August 2024, 40,000 Palestinians lost their lives in Gaza. Over the past 10 months, 130 people have died in Gaza every day. Civilians, including children, young people, and the elderly, are paying the price for Israel’s disregard for international law, its brutal occupation and massacres, as well as the provocative actions of radical religious groups—on both sides.

“In Cyprus, the current situation is a ceasefire. A ceasefire means a state of potential danger where uncertainty remains, and even the smallest spark on the island could lead to major tensions. The 50-year process in Cyprus has not been a success story, as evidenced by the ongoing ceasefire.

“At this point, the important thing is to achieve a fair, lasting, comprehensive, and functional peace on the island. Without a solution and peace, stability cannot be achieved on the island. Our children cannot sleep peacefully, the economy cannot get on track, and lasting gains cannot be achieved.

“September 1st, World Peace Day, is not about the lies of sovereign equality, but about creating a fair and equal new order that both sides can agree on. It is about sharing.

“CTP will continue its determined struggle to reach a bi-zonal, bi-communal Federal solution based on political equality, in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. We will continue to emphasise that lasting peace requires mutual acceptance and that nothing can be achieved through mutual impositions. Truth has always defeated lies, and it will do so again. The Turkish Cypriots are a people who deserve lasting peace and have the ability to make their own decisions.

“Happy World Peace Day on September 1st”.
