Cyprus Conference begins

The Cyprus Conference has reconvened in Crans-Montana in Switzerland. The conference officially started with a press conference held by the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide at 11am Cyprus time.

During the conference which is being attended by the two sides in Cyprus as well as three guarantor powers Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom alongside the “Security and Guarantees” chapter all other issues which were not agreed on during the Cyprus negotiations process will be discussed.

Turkey is being represented by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Greece is being represented by Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, the United Kingdom is being represented by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and the EU is being represented by the First Vice President of the European Commision Frans Timmermans and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini at the conference.

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is also expected to attend the conference in the coming days.

President Mustafa Akıncı, Turkish Cypriot Negotiator Özdil Nami, Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu, the President’s Special Advisor on Diplomacy and EU Affairs Erhan Erçin, 2nd Secretary Sertaç Güven, The President’s Special Political Advisor on Political Affairs and History and Technical Committees Coordinator Meltem Onurkan Samani, the President’s Legal Adviser Sülen Karabacak, Foreign Affairs expert İpek Genç, the President’s Security Adviser Halil Sadrazam, Economy Adviser Ömer Gökçekuş, a member of the property committee Layık Mesutoğlu and a delegation of technical experts are representing the TRNC at the summit.

Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş and Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu are representing the TRNC government at the conference.

The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman, CTP MP who is responsible for Foreign Relations Armağan Candan, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP) Cemal Özyiğit and TDP MP Zeki Çeler are also in Crans-Montana for the summit.
