Cyprus gold is a shared asset: says Eroglu

The President of the TRNC has issued a statement which says the following:

The Republic of Cyprus was formed as a partnership in 1960. The two peoples in that partnership jointly own all the assets of the state.

The gold currently being proposed for sale dates back to the date that the new republic was formed, therefore the Greek Cypriot administration has no right to sell the gold or use it in any other way without the agreement of the Turkish Cypriots.

The statement continues that this will be the fiftieth year without a solution to the Cyprus problem. The Turkish Cypriot side again calls on Greek Cypriots to enter negotiations. Any solution will benefit both sides.

However, if the Greek Cypriots continue with their unilateral actions on jointly owned assets then this will only deepen mistrust between the two communities.
