Ataoğlu was accompanied by Ministry Director Mehmet Yalçın, State Theatres Director Nazım Ced, City Planning Director Türkmen Yiğitcan, Geology and Mining Director Ayşen Albayrak, and other expert personnel from the Planning and Construction Department, along with staff from the State Theatre.
In his speech during the visit, Ataoğlu mentioned that although the project to rebuild the theatre, which has undergone many revisions over the years, had never been completed, there has always been a strong desire from artists and art enthusiasts to see it finished. In light of this, he emphasised that they have prioritised completing the project and are doing everything they can to bring an end to this long wait.
Ataoğlu highlighted the importance of preserving and sharing culture and art with future generations, as well as the vital role that theatre plays in enriching society. He expressed his hope that the people of Cyprus and its artists will soon have a modern theatre building they deserve and that the curtains will rise once again, reuniting audiences with art and artists.
He added that after identifying any remaining issues, they will move forward with the third phase of construction to finalise the building, bringing an end to this 25-year wait and restoring the theatre to the world of art. Ataoğlu gave assurances that the construction company is working diligently and that the government is closely monitoring the progress to ensure the building is completed as soon as possible.
Ataoğlu also noted the good relationship with the Turkish State Theatre, stating that they will be seeking their technical support to address any deficiencies in the project. He concluded by thanking everyone involved in the project and expressed his hope that the new State Theatre building will be beneficial to the theatre community and the people of North Cyprus.
