While Cyprus is not in immediate danger, the island is becoming more of a strategic target, Associate Professor Dr. Muhittin Özsağlam from Lefke European University said on Kanal SIM, Yeniduzen reports.
He said that this is in part because the UK has sovereign bases there.
Dr. Özsağlam said these bases support Israel logistically and that Israel’s success is largely due to U.S. technology support. Some Western countries back Israel too, even if their people don’t always agree.
He pointed out that what’s happening in Gaza is reaching a genocide level. He described Israel as an autocratic regime that often seeks external enemies to distract from internal issues and stay in power. He noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been pointing to external threats to boost his own position, but the problem is bigger than that.
Dr. Özsağlam also talked about Gaza’s strategic importance for Israel, mentioning a canal project there that China and India will benefit from. He said India and Azerbaijan strongly support Israel, and everyone knows about the genocide in Gaza. He added that Azerbaijan supplies Israel with fuel, which is transported through Turkey.
