Precautionary measures by the crisis committee have been taken following Thursday’s explosions at a munitions depot in a military zone in Çatalköy.
The measures were announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay.
According to the decision, all fireworks displays in the area have been banned for a week.
The area around the explosion zone has been closed to hunting and fire trucks will be waiting on standby in Arapköy for several days.
Reporters will not be allowed to shoot footage or report in the nearby vicinity of the explosion zone.
The crisis committee also announced that three teams have been formed to find unexploded ammunition and one team to destroy any ordinance which might be discovered.
Özersay also said that the explosions had taken place in a section of the ammunition depot and that life had returned to normal.
He added that he contacted the representatives of 16 foreign countries in Cyprus to inform them about their citizens following the explosions.
