Motorcyclists staged a demonstration in Kyrenia yesterday to highlight the issue of traffic accidents, Yeniduzen reports.

Demonstrators gathered in front of Kyrenia American University (GAU) around 5.30 pm, marched to Kyrenia Municipality, and delivered a press statement. Gönül Sağır, the mother of Cemre Yönet, who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident in February, delivered the statement. Sağır emphasised: “Let us remember that motorcyclists are also part of the traffic“.

Sağır stressed that traffic accidents in North Cyprus are primarily due to disregarding traffic regulations. She highlighted the need for both public awareness and education from authorities to prevent further accidents. Sağır pointed out that 28 people have died in traffic accidents since the start of the year and urged: “We must adhere to traffic rules and recognise that motorcyclists are also vehicles on the road. Safe driving is achievable if we commit to it. Traffic violations are deadly. We do not want to lose our children anymore. We want to prevent further fatalities in traffic”.

Following the press statement, other motorcyclists also spoke, calling for an end to traffic accidents and advocating for safer road conditions.
